We realize that people have questions - below are our most commonly asked. If you don't see your question here, please contact us.

Frequently asked questions:

• The presets are not saving my settings, the app is crashing or I can't hear the audio?

The best solution for this is to restart the device and try again. If the problem persists, then I recommend deleting the app and trying a reinstall. We have tested the app with the latest iOS - if the app is crashing on the intervals screen, while previewing sounds, make sure to wait for the current sound to stop before scrolling or playing another preview.

The binaural beats or entrainment is sometimes very subtle - it is generally difficult to hear through earbuds, the phone speaker or satellite speakers. I highly recommened 2.1 speakers (2 speakers with a subwoofer) or high quality over the ear headphones.

• What platforms is AmbiScience available on? Do you plan on additional platforms?

Currently, our line of products is available only on iOS. We do have plans to re-port to Android, however, our product has issues with the 'Stagefright' bug and it is uncertain when this will happen.

• I have an Android version of your software, but I am missing certain OGG files. How do I download these?

Currently, the Android version has issues - see above. We working on a solution, however, this depends on whether the bug is resolved. These files are not available for download at the moment - we apologize for this inconvenience.

• What are binaural beats or isochronic tones (brainwave entrainment)?

Binaural beats are the most well know form of entrainment. Where a slightly different tone is presented into each ear. When the pure tone are mixed together, their waveforms add and subtract from one another, resulting in a ‘pulse’. In the case of binaural beats, the two tones are mixed by the brain itself (one in each ear). These pulses, called ‘beats’, formed by mixing these tones is what causes the entrainment to occur.

Isochronic tones are evenly spaced tone pulses. Unlike binaural beats, isochronic tones do not rely on the combination of two tones - the ‘beat’ or ‘tone’ is created by turning a tone on and off. Widely regarded as the most effective tone-based method, isochronic tones produce very strong cortical responses in the brain, people who do not respond well to binaural beats often respond well to isochronic tones.

• What are the recommended settings? How long should I listen for?

The recommended settings are to keep your music vs. the entrainment at about a 5:1 ratio. If your music is at 100% volume capacity, then your entrainment or brainwaves volume should be at about 25%. Try the brainwaves at a very low level to start. Adjust them to 1-10% of your music volume, so that you can just hear the beats or tones behind the music. If you feel discomfort, then decrease the volume of the brainwaves (entrainment effects). The entrainment does not work the same for everyone - so experiment. Start low, then move higher.

The length of time you listen for depends on you - generally 30 mins is recommended. If you are using a 'sleep' entrainment program, this obviously can be used overnight. If you feel discomfort, discontinue use.

• What are the frequencies used and their associated states?

• Beta 12Hz - 38Hz

Very awake state. This is a day state from when you wake until bedtime. Usually associated with strong mental activity - focusing, problem solving etc.

• Alpha 8Hz - 12Hz

Awake but highly relaxed. Usually the goal of experienced meditators. Closed eyes, reflection.

• Theta 3Hz - 8Hz

Light sleep or extreme relaxation. Dreamful sleep, lucid dreaming, spiritual experiences. Effective for hypnosis.

• Delta .2Hz - 3Hz

Deep, dreamless sleep.

• Do you have a tutorial?

Yes, we have a tutorial. It is available here.

• Do you plan on updating the software?

Yes, updates are coming. We are a 'one man' shop right now - I usually do this in my free time, when its available.

• The app crashes/freezes/quits by itself, what can I do?

The best solution for this is to restart the device and try again. If the problem persists, then I recommend deleting the app and trying a reinstall.

• What does HP/SPK mean?

This means that the program you've chosen is for headphones and/or speakers. The 'HP' term indicates that this audio is just for headphones only.

• I've tried playing a brainwave/entrainment track, but I can't hear it?

If you have selected an HP/SPK track, you must use either headphones or 2.1 speaker system - the phone speaker is not adequate nor are just stereo speakers. If you are using the correct device setup and still can't hear the audio, make sure you give the track additional time to start - some of the tracks have a long gradual fade-in.

• I'm not happy with my purchase, how do I get a refund?

Apple issues all refunds - you need to contact them.
